5th Grade HOOKS
Coach: Andy Straube
Assistant: Mike Holliday
Andy Straube

Andy was a three-sport athlete for Hannibal Pirates with college offers in football and basketball and loves coaching and giving back to the Hannibal Pirate Athletics where possible. Andy has been behind the scenes since the beginning with Hannibal Hooks and HYB staff. He's been coaching 2 age groups for the last 4 years and will be coaching the HYB 5th Graders this year.
On the hardwood for the pirates Andy's 1993 team holds the points per game record, still, 30 years later (60pts). His pedigree in basketball also led him to attend Moberly Area Junior college where his father attended in the 60's and won a national championship. During his tenure at Moberly, Andy started as a shooting guard where their 94 team still has the highest scoring game on record over 135 points in a single game. Andy then moved on to Southwest Missouri State where injury would end his playing days. His "Shoot first, ask questions later!" and "Defend, Defend, Defend!" mentality he believes helps boosts the confidence of the young HYB players.
